Good Astrologers guide

Astrology training around the world

An independent international guide to astrology training providers, from introductory study to professional diplomas and specialist certification.

Astrology training around the world

Astrology is taught through many different traditions, institutions and professional organisations. Some schools offer introductory classes, while others provide structured diploma courses, specialist training or professional examinations.

This guide brings together established astrology education providers in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, alongside international training and certification organisations.

It is a curated resource rather than an exhaustive register. Schools differ considerably in their approaches, admission requirements and assessment standards.

Before enrolling: Check the provider’s website for current courses, fees, teaching formats, examination requirements and enrolment availability. Inclusion in this guide does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of accreditation.

Professional astrology qualifications compared

Professional astrology qualifications are not all awarded in the same way. Some follow a taught programme, while others require examinations, assessments of consultation skills or independent certification. A certificate confirming course attendance should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of passing a professional examination.

The comparison below explains selected qualification pathways offered by organisations covered in this guide. It is not a ranking, and the awards are not necessarily equivalent in level, duration or assessment.

Organisation Qualifications and assessment pathway
Faculty of Astrological Studies Offers a Certificate and the Diploma of the Faculty of Astrological Studies (DFAstrolS). The Diploma requires completion of nine modules and three examinations. The Faculty distinguishes its Certificate from its professional Diploma.
Kepler College Offers the Professional Diploma in Astrology (KPDA) and Advanced Professional Diploma in Astrology (KAPDA). The advanced award is a separate, further level of study.
NCGR and the Professional Astrologers' Alliance NCGR provides education through four levels. The Professional Astrologers' Alliance (PAA) administers separate certification examinations. Completing an NCGR class is not the same as passing a PAA examination.
International Society for Astrological Research CAPISAR professional certification involves ethics training and examination, consultation skills training and a competency examination.
Federation of Australian Astrologers Currently offers the FAA Diploma of Astrology and Advanced Diploma of Astrology. Its former Practitioners Certificate is now known as the Diploma, while the former FAA Diploma is now the Advanced Diploma. Older credential names may therefore still appear on practitioners' profiles.
Mercury Internet School of Psychological Astrology Distinguishes its Certificate of Completion in Psychological Astrology from its Diploma in Psychological Astrology. The Diploma requires a further oral examination and assessment of consultation skills.
School of Traditional Astrology Offers the Practitioners Level Horary Certificate and an Advanced Level Horary Diploma. The advanced assessment includes submitted horary case studies.
Canadian Association for Astrological Education Offers staged examinations and an Accredited Astrologer Diploma pathway involving additional advanced study and assessment.
Organisation for Professional Astrology Provides a professional certification pathway involving consultation skills, professional development and related training. Completion of an individual workshop should not be confused with full certification.
Steven Forrest's astrology training The historic Apprenticeship Program issued attendance certificates. These should be distinguished from the separately assessed qualifications of the Forrest Center for Evolutionary Astrology (FCEA).

What qualifications should an astrologer have?

There is no single qualification that establishes whether an astrologer is suitable for every client. Professional astrologers may have completed formal diplomas, specialist training or assessed certification programmes. Others have developed their practice through independent study, mentoring and years of experience.

When comparing astrologers, look for evidence of relevant knowledge and professional development. An assessed qualification can demonstrate structured study, but it does not automatically guarantee interpretative skill, ethical judgement or a good consultation.

Check the exact award, the institution that issued it and whether it involved examinations, practical assessment or attendance alone. Our professional astrologer directory allows you to examine practitioners’ stated qualifications alongside their experience, approaches, services and published reviews.

Qualifications on Good Astrologers profiles are generally practitioner-supplied, not independently authenticated. Our verification guidance explains the distinction.

How to assess an astrologer’s qualifications

When comparing practitioners, consider the precise award, the institution or awarding body, the year awarded and the assessment involved. In particular:

  • Check the exact qualification name. A certificate of attendance, a course completion certificate and a professional diploma can represent different achievements.
  • Distinguish teaching from examining. Some organisations provide education while separate bodies administer professional certification.
  • Use the awarding organisation’s own information. Where available, check its qualification descriptions, examination requirements and official practitioner registers.
  • Consider the broader professional background. University degrees, supervised practice, mentoring and continuing education may also be relevant, even when they are not astrology-specific qualifications.

Qualifications displayed on Good Astrologers profiles are supplied by the practitioners themselves. Their inclusion does not mean that Good Astrologers has independently verified the award, accredited the provider or endorsed the practitioner’s competence.

How to choose an astrology training course

Before committing to a course, consider the following:

  • Tradition: Does the school teach modern Western, psychological, traditional, evolutionary, Vedic or another approach?
  • Level: Is the course designed for beginners, intermediate students or experienced practitioners?
  • Teaching format: Is the course online, in person, self-paced or taught through live classes?
  • Assessment: Does the qualification require examinations, coursework or supervised chart interpretation?
  • Professional preparation: Does the course include consultation practice, ethics and working with clients?
  • Qualification: Is the award a course completion certificate, a diploma or an independent professional certification?
  • Cost and duration: What is the total commitment, including examinations and additional materials?

Not every capable astrologer holds a formal diploma, and completing a course does not by itself establish professional competence. Experience, interpretative ability, ethical judgement and communication skills also matter.
